Collegial

Collegiāl, adj. et adv. welches aus dem mittlern Latein. collegialis entlehnet, und nur in einigen Zusammensetzungen üblich ist. Die Collegial-Kirche, ecclesia collegialis, welche von Canonicis bedienet wird, an welcher sich ein Collegium von Canonicis befindet, die aber keinen Bischof, sondern nur einen Propst oder Dechanten zum Haupte haben, wodurch sie sich von einer Kathedral-Kirche unterscheiden, deren Haupt alle Mahl ein Bischof ist; eine Stiftskirche, ehedem auch ein niederes Stift, oder Niederstift. Durch die Canonices wird sie von den gemeinen Pfarrkirchen unterschieden. Die Collegial-Kirchen heißen auch Collegiat-Kirchen, nach dem Latein. Ecclesia collegiata.
