Put

Put, ein im gemeinen Leben übliches Wort, die Hühner, besonders aber die Truthühner und deren Junge zu locken, welches von der Stimme der letztern entlehnet ist, die es nachahmet. Daher pflegt man auch ein Wälsches Huhn die Pute, das Puthuhn, und einen Wälschen Hahn einen Puter, Puthahn oder Puterhahn zu nennen. S. Calecut. Im gemeinen Leben einiger Gegenden, besonders in der Kindersprache, werden alle Hühner, besonders junge Hühner, Puttel, Puttchen, Putthühnchen, u.s.f. genannt.
